Political development in Europe.

One of the main reason why countries in Europe are moving in a right-wing direction, is the fact that the level of polarization in society has considerable increased over the last ten years. Increased polarization may have several reasons, but one important cause is a strong disagreement about the scale and nature of problems associated with immigration and in particular with integration of immigrants into the European societies.

Politicians, belonging to the right segments of society, are strongly expressing that there are all sorts of problems with immigration, and in particular, immigration of muslims, whereas left wing politicians are always playing down any problematic aspekt related to immigrasjon, and use a lot of intellecutal resources to try to convince the public that the right wing politicians have a totally incorrect and dangerous political view, often described as fascist or near to fascist view.

And since these antagonistic viewpoints are to a high degree presented in various media, the consequence is increased polarization, a develpment process that is clearly in favour of the right wing forces, the reason being that ordinary people know by experience that immigration and integration are causing many challenges, strongly downplayed by the leftist.

This polarization prosess seems to imply that the European countries may in fact become less tolerant, and even move in a more totalitarian direction.
